PD/GO is glad to have created the website for the Youth Sailing Foundation of Indian River County.

Youth Sailing Foundation of Indian River County offers free sailing instruction to the children of Indian River County, helping to bring adventure, confidence and life skills to local youth. Founded in 2009 by Charlie and Chris Pope, the not-for-profit organization has over 50 volunteers, averaging 85 students during a school year. Funded entirely by local individuals, businesses and institutions, the Youth Sailing Foundation has a fleet of over 60 sailboats and 10 chase and safety boats. There’s even a specially configured pontoon boat for on-water classroom and parent-viewing stand.

Children 9-14 learn on Saturdays, with beginners in the morning and advanced classes in the afternoon. Students use Opti eight-foot singles by our certified U.S. sailing instructors and volunteers who teach safety, basic seamanship, rigging and unrigging, launching, sailing maneuvers, rules of the road and sportsmanship. High school students practice Wednesday after school and Saturdays using two-person 12-foot 420 sail boats. Inexpensive adult sailing classes are also available with tuition helping to fund the free youth sailing classes. Contact the Youth Sailing Foundation of Indian River County via their ADA-compliant website to learn how you or your child can participate.
